About Us
Earthly Haven originated in 2020 from the desire to live in a less toxic world, following this belief is when our main ingredient, Beef Tallow, was reborn. Since the Bronze ages, people have been using tallow as a popular skin salve for moisturizers and for treating skin ailments. As it turns out, they were on to something genius... and sustainable.
What is tallow and where does it come from?
Tallow is rendered fat, primary beef fat harvested from certain parts of the cow to derive the most nutrients, Tallow can also be rendered from a wide variety of animals including deer and pig. Rendering is the process of cooking down or melting fat into a butter-like consistency. In our case, we use grass-fed USDA beef suet. This is the highest-quality tallow as it comes from around the kidneys and other major organs and is the most nutritious fat in the whole animal (often called suet or leaf fat). Tallow has amazing health benefits and is still used today in cooking and especially in organic skin care products.
What are the benefits of tallow for skin?
Tallow is the most comparable substance to Sebum (the natural oil found on our skin); therefore, it is the single best ingredient we can put on our skin. Some of the nutrient rich properties found in tallow include are Vitamins A, B12, D, E and K, which are natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial (good for acne prevention), CLA (natural omega-6 fatty acid which is responsible for retaining moisture), other fatty acids, including oleic acid, palmitoleic acid, stearic acid (the same type of fat found in olive oil), linoleic acid and more. Tallow will not clog pores, can improve skin elasticity, promote wound healing, and improve damaged skin. It is gentle enough to use on babies (I use it on mine), which makes it ideal for treating diaper rash. It is also used to treat skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, extremely dry or sensitive skin.
